Description: This was the last mountain for me to summit on the Seven Summits list. Squeezed this hike in the day before having to leave Kodiak for a month or two without being able to return until winter. So psyched to finish the Seven Summits before I left! Kashevaroff Mt (Kash) was pretty, sections were covered in frost or frozen water. Near the beginning of the hike, we came across bear tracks frozen into the mud. This was definitely the least aggressive, most sloping, trail of the Seven Summits; you get up roughly the same elevation in nearly twice the distance. There were pretty sloping, grassy hills throughout, with a rockier section to the summit. We passed by a strong stream on the way up and I had to run down to it to dip my feet in the freezing cold water! Climbing higher, we saw beautiful ice from frozen little streams on the trail. Views of Woman’s Bay and inland mountains.
I would like to do this trail again but continue towards Center Mt. The trail to Center Mt splits off from Kashevaroff trail just before the final push to the summit of Kash. The hike from the Kash trailhead to Center Mt and back is about 21 miles. The trail after Kash is gentle and sloping for the majority of the hike, until just before the summit of Center Mt. In the summer, I have heard it is gorgeous, with greenery and wildflowers everywhere.
