North Sister Mt.

Elevation: 1,824 ft

Difficulty: Hard

Features: Peak, open meadow, rock scramble at the top

Description: This was my first hike in Kodiak. There are two trails to summit North Sister Mt. The first trail is located opposite of Monashka Bay Lookout. This trail is extremely steep the entire way, leading straight up an unforgiving line on the mountian. The second trail has very steep parts, especially in the beginning and summit push. But it also winds around the north face of the mountain, opening the view stunning valley for a large portion of the hike. After the initial steep sections, stunning wrap around valley views, there is a saddle between North Sister and Middle Sister. North Sister stands proudly to the left and Middle Sister to the right. Taking the trail up the left to North Sister Mt. we climbed up fun rock scrambles.

The peak of North Sister Mt. features a short ridge line, with steep sides and stunning 360degree views of the Three Sisters, Devils Prongs, Monashka Mt., Pillar Mt, and the surrounding bodies of water. The mountains were still a striking green in September with the beginnings or orange and read peeking through. Lots of crow berries! Easy technical level but relatively steep rock scramble to the summit of the mountain. Would highly reccommend!
