The Seven Summits are the seven most prominent mountains on the Kodiak road system with trails to the summit. They are the most accessible difficult hiking trails from town with trailheads located everywhere from White Sands Beach down the road well past The Flats. All these trails are in relatively good condition due to people hiking them. Most involve an extended steep incline followed by a short rock scramble to the summit. If you are looking for a challenge and some crazy views, all seven of these mountains are highly recommended.

You can complete the Seven Summits challenge hosted every summer by Kodiak.org. To complete the challenge, you have to complete all seven summits between 1 July – 3 September and take a photo with the marked peak at each. Prizes are raffled off: i.e. cash prizes, Alaska Airlines miles, other local businesses. One entry for completing them in the timeframe, five entries for completing them in a week, and ten entries for completing them in 24hrs!

A new organization is hosting the Kodiak Mountain Series from June 19th-21st 2025. This is an exciting race up Heitman Mt., Sharatin Mt., and Pyramid Mt. over the course of three days. 7,000 feet of vertical, 19 miles, over three days. You can preregister to join the race!
